MGF / MG TF Wiper Motor Adapter
Step-by-step guide for replacing the wiper motor on an MGF or MG TF using the adapter.
Warning: The aftermarket wiper motor is ground switched. The motor and assembly must be completely isolated from the body of the car. All grommets and rubber bushings must be reinstalled correctly. Failure to do so will result in a blown fuse.
Isolating grommets are required at both wiper arm mounting pivots and at the wiper motor mounting bracket.
1. Disconnect the battery
Disconnect the negative battery cable before starting. Make sure the wipers are in the resting position before disconnecting.
2. Remove the wiper arms
- Remove the 13mm retaining nuts securing the wiper arms to the pivots.
- Remove the grommets and the 32mm retaining nuts.
3. Remove the cowl
- Undo all the Phillips screws from the cowl and remove all clips (under the rubber seal).
- Lift the wiper cowl off to gain access to the wiper motor.
- Remove the large plastic cover on top of the wiper motor.
4. Remove the old wiper motor
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the old motor.
- Unscrew the retaining screw and the rubber bushing/grommet from the lower front of the wiper motor assembly.
- Unbolt and remove the complete assembly from the vehicle, together with the wiper mechanism. Be careful not to lose the 2 additional rubber grommets around the pivots.
- Unbolt the 3× 10mm screws from the bottom of the wiper motor and the 13mm nut from the central shaft.
- Remove the wiper motor from the assembly.
5. Install the new motor
- Connect the electrical connector together with the provided adapter cable.
- With the ignition on, reconnect the electrical connector to the new motor. This aligns the motor to its correct park position — essential for proper wiper operation and to prevent the wipers from parking in the wrong place.
- Mount the new motor to the assembly in reverse order. Mind the arrow pointing to the bracket on the rear of the motor — the bracket must be aligned between the arrows.
- Reinstall everything in reverse order.
Warning: Test the motor before mounting the wiper arms. Make sure the wiper motor is in its resting position before mounting the wiper blades. Failure will result in damage to the windscreen or bonnet.
